FAQ
- Is the Hovery a real hovercraft?
Yes
- Do I need a permit to operate it?
No
- Can I use it on a street?
No.It is not a street legal vehicle. It would be more closely related to an ATV. The coastguard considers it an ACV (air cushion vehicle)
- Can I climb up a hill with a Hovery?
Probably not. A skilled Hovery operator could probably negotiate a small hill using a combination of speed and power, but Hovercrafts are efficient on flat surfaces.
- Can I use it on my backyard?
Not unless you have a really big backyard. Safe operation of your Hovery requires anticipation of your maneuvers and taking into account the distance it will take you to execute a change in direction or speed (increase or decrease).
- Can I take my Hovery to the Ocean?
The Hovery is ill suited for rough waters and not designed for open ocean. The Hovery is constructed with anodized aluminum and stainless still fasteners to resist the ocean water. It will float thanks to its flotation chamber housed inside the skirt, but such flotation was not designed to make the Hovery into a boat but rather to ad a margin of safety in the event of an engine out situation or a planned stop on a calm body of water.
- Where can I use my Hovery?
Just imagine yourself exploring those deserted islands, flats, lakes, lagoons, coastal areas, calm, inhabited beach areas, etc. You must always maintain an acute awareness of your surrounding areas and how your presence might affect its inhabitants. (Animals, vegetation, humans). In addition you must check with local authorities to make sure you are not trespassing into restricted, protected or prohibited areas.
- How does a Hovery compare to a car?
It does not. By the inherent nature of the Hovercraft moving above the surface with very little friction, your Hovery can not compare with a car or any other vehicle in contact with the surface.
- What kind of maintenance will the Hovery required?
Very minimal. Just follow the engine manufacturer recommendations for the engine. In the meantime, common procedures include: periodic spark plug changes, checking and adjusting possible loose bolts due to vibration, maintaining your equipment clean is usually helpful in helping to detect things that are not properly attached, have moved out of its usual place, cracked, are missing, turn, misaligned, bend, etc. The idea behind the Hovery is to keep things simple. If something goes wrong, replacing or fixing it should be fairly inexpensive and easy.
- Which components commonly need attention or replacement?
Hovercraft operate on a cushion of air. That does not mean that your Hovery will never touch the ground. It will. In fact, some turning and slow down techniques will require that you use friction and some weight shifting to change speed and direction. That means that some part of the Hovery will see more friction against the riding surface. Depending on the type of surface that you operate your Hovery on, you will need to patch, repair or change the skirt. Operating over abrasive surfaces like a section of asphalt, will cause more wear than operating over water, which causes minimal wear.
- What can I do if I have never operated a Hovery before?
Always thoroughly read and understand the operators manual before operating your Hovery. Never allow others to operate your Hovery unless they are properly instructed and have read and understood the operators manual. Always operate in a safe and prudent manner and find an open area with plenty of room to maneuver. Never operate in such proximity to objects that you could come in contact with them should you loose control of your Hovery.
- Things to consider before purchasing a Hovery.
With its vast and unique capabilities come greater responsibility and care for proper operating skills, familiarization with its characteristics and respect for others. A Hovery will open the door to locations previously considered out of reach. You must always respect the environment and avoid leaving a mark of your passage. Be corteous and respectful of others. The hovery will allow you to interact with people with diverse interests: boaters, snowmobile riders, atv riders. Remember: Your Hovery is neither of those machines. It will allow you to operate in surfaces sometimes used by those different machines, but that does not mean that you can climb mountains, operate in step slopes, rough waters, etc.
